Camp Equality - Columbus Register Now!
Saturday, July 19, 2008
Last night, the Columbus Steering Committee, in conjunction with several other state and local organizations, threw a debate watch
party at East Village in Columbus. The restaurant was packed with citizens from our community of all ages and backgrounds to hear and see what the
leading Democratic presidential candidates had to say about what they can do for Ohio and the nation.
With the Ohio primary in less than a week, many of the attendees were eager to hear words that could
reaffirm their stance; some looking for a reason to choose one of the two candidates many consider similar regarding their political views and opinions on policy.
While walking through the crowd, it was easy to discern between the campaigns' supporters branding their hopes' stickers and flags. Despite the differences in opinion, the GLBT community and its allies came together in good tidings to see a part of American history
unfold. Although, a few jeers escaped when a disagreement arose between the candidates, one sentiment was clear: no matter who wins the Ohio primary and no matter who wins the nomination,
we will put aside our differences and angst, unite as a community, and do whatever we can to make a difference. The time is now and, once again, Ohio will play a major role in the future of our country.
